After only eight episodes, Season 1 of The Barnes Bunch ended on WeTV. In the season finale, which aired on Friday, June 7, Matt Barnes and Anansa Sims celebrated some significant changes to the Barnes household. During the penultimate episode, Anansa announced she was pregnant with the couple's second biological child.
The couple, who began dating in 2018, have another son, Ashton. Additionally, they're raising their children from previous relationships: Matt's sons Carter and Isaiah, and Anansa's kids Dean, Danny, and Ava Patterson.
Throughout the season, we've watched Matt and Anansa bravely share their ups and downs, some of which they discussed in therapy for the world to see. Now that they're finally on the right page, Matt is ready to marry Anansa. So, did they tie the knot? Here's what we know.
Are 'The Barnes Bunch' stars Anansa Sims and Matt Barnes married?
As of this writing, Matt and Anansa are still engaged and haven't gotten married yet. However, Matt tried to "make it last forever" with Anansa during the Season 1 finale of The Barnes Bunch, "Wedding Blues and Baby News."
In the finale, Matt planned to surprise Anansa with a wedding. He told Anansa's friends and her mom, supermodel Beverly Johnson, that he wanted to make their union legal while they celebrated what Anansa believed was their engagement party.
When Matt told his soon-to-be mother-in-law about the idea, she seemed excited for him and Anansa.
But in another scene, she pondered on whether to give Anansa a heads-up before the event so she was aware of the situation. While Anansa tried on dresses for the party, Beverly told her daughter's friends she thought she would prefer to know about the wedding plan rather than to be surprised.
"Nobody wants to tell her, and I love her dearly," Beverly said in a confessional interview. "I think the majority of mothers try to protect their children."
Beverly proceeded to tell Anansa what Matt had planned at the party. She explained she didn't want Anansa to be upset if she didn't have the "right" dress or look for her and Matt's wedding.
Unfortunately, Anansa didn't see it that way and told her mom she was "disappointed" that the surprise was now ruined. At the bridal shop, she shared that her mom spilled the beans that her ex-husband, David Patterson, was planning to propose to her, making the reveal even more frustrating.
In another scene from the finale, Anansa calls the shopping trip "one of the worst days of my life."
Matt said he "glad" Anansa found out about his wedding plans.
While Anansa was disappointed that her mother's protection tarnished her and Matt's wedding plans, Matt quickly jumped to "Safta's" defense.
"I feel bad that Bev is in this position," the All the Smoke host said in a confessional. "I feel responsible. Everything that Bev does is out of love for Anansa."
Matt also listened as Anansa shared how "crushed" she was by her mom's reveal, he said he decided to be his pregnant fiancee's "calming presence" and admit that he's the one to blame for all of it. He then shared that he knew Anansa might not like the idea of being surprised under any circumstances and wanted her mom to do a "temperature check" before going through with the surprise wedding.
After sharing his side, Matt gave Anansa the option of going through with the wedding at the engagement party, telling her it "doesn't change that I still love you and we're going to get married." However, his fiancee decided to postpone the wedding and stick with their plans for an engagement party.
At the party's venue, Matt met up with some of his friends ahead of the party. He told them that while he didn't like seeing Anansa upset, he was "glad" they postponed the wedding another time, especially since it rained the day of their engagement party. I
Instead of a wedding, the couple used their party to reveal the gender of the new Barnes family member. The finale ended with Anansa and Matt telling everyone they were having a boy.
Maybe we'll see a wedding when The Barnes Bunch is back for Season 2!
