Candiace Dillard Bassett Discusses Ongoing Feud With Gizelle Bryant (EXCLUSIVE)

While all of the ladies of The Real Housewives of Potomac have their Ph.D. in shade and tea spilling, no one does it quite like Gizelle Bryant and her sparring partner, Candiace Dillard Bassett. Gizelle, who joined the series in Season 1, and Candiace, coming in during Season 3, have no problems using their words to defend themselves, with Candiace certainly winning in the vocabulary department.

After their friendship took a nasty turn in RHOP Season 7, Candiace and Gizelle hoped to have a fresh start when they appeared on Bravo's Housewives spinoff, The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip. However, Candiace told Distractify leading up to the RHUGT Season 3 premiere in March 2023 that things between her and Gizelle will get much worse before they get better.

Here’s what Candiace said about her and Gizelle’s feud!

Candiace and Gizelle met when Candiace joined RHOP in Season 3. Since becoming co-stars, they’ve had multiple disagreements, though none of them have run as deep as their Season 7 drama.

Gizelle said Candiace’s husband, Chris Bassett, made her uncomfortable during their conversation at the Season 6 reunion. According to Candiace and Chris, Gizelle didn’t bring up the conversation until filming resumed for Season 7.

When the season premiered in October 2022, fans watched as Gizelle claimed Chris was “complaining about his wife” and referred to Chris as a “sneaky link,” which was the catalyst for their social media wars and real-life spats during the season.

However, Candiace exclusively told Distractify that when she discovered Gizelle would be on RHUGT with her, she initially wanted to have an open mind about her co-star.

“You know, for some reason, I don't know if they [fans] like her, or if she's just, she forces her way into people's lives,” the “Drive Back” singer exclusively told Distractify.

While fans saw Candiace and Gizelle having a kiki via FaceTime in the RHUGT Season 3 premiere, we now know the Bravolebrities won’t be so friendly toward the season’s end.

Candiace shared with us that she believed she and Gizelle were cool at the time of their trip and wanted to avoid having any “drama and contention” with her for their overseas vacay.

However, she said she only knew what Gizelle told her directly during Potomac’s filming, and she had no idea that Gizelle had implied that Chris wanted to sneak around.

“Nothing that Gizelle said regarding my husband and this story that she made up to paint him as a predator — I didn't see any of that,” Candiace noted. “All I knew was what had happened in scenes where we were together. She hadn't said all these things about him being a ‘sneaky link’ and him trying to get with her and all that stuff, which I think further incriminated him. She tried to incriminate him further and make him really tear him down.”

She continued: “If I had known those things, it would have gone a little differently. But I went in more open. I don't want to have drama and contention with people, especially those I thought were my friends. We're going into this together; we have to represent Potomac."

"So I wanted that to be the reality, not knowing what I would find out later," she added. "However, it doesn't end well.”

Candiace’s declaration that her relationship with Gizelle wouldn’t “end well” proved to be accurate. The women were cordial throughout the season, though Candiace threw several digs at her co-star (She’Neda Mann will always be timeless). And it seems the drama has only worsened on their show, RHOP.

After ending their time on RHUGT, Gizelle and Candiace returned to filming for Season 8 of The Real Housewives of Potomac. Before the season premiere aired on Nov. 5, 2023, the ladies already had issues regarding, you guessed it, Candiace’s husband, Chris.

In October 2023, blogger Tasha K claimed to have receipts that Chris has a mistress who has been around during his and Candiace’s five-year marriage. According to Us Weekly, the woman was pregnant with Chris’s baby and had an abortion at the chef’s request.

Candiace has denied the affair allegations and said at BravoCon 2023 that she and Chris were doing great and were “made to be together.” However, Gizelle told Us Weekly she wasn’t buying it and felt it was “very believable” that Chris had stepped out on his and Candiace’s marriage.

“I feel like it’s unfortunate, but I tried to tell Candiace about her husband last season,” Gizelle mentioned in October 2023, referencing her Season 7 claims about Chris. “And she didn’t want to listen [to me], so maybe she should have listened.”

Gizelle and Robyn Dixon also addressed the cheating allegations on their podcast, Reasonably Shady. After hearing the comments, Candiace defended her marriage and took shots at Robyn Dixon’s husband, Juan Dixon, who has been accused of cheating on Robyn with multiple partners, including a woman he met in Canada and his Coppin State co-worker, Breanna “Coach Bre” Gross.

“No matter how hard a miserable, sad troll with a long neck may try to infiltrate a happy marriage, she just won’t succeed,” Candiace said of Gizelle’s comments. “And that’s all she wrote.”

Yeah, these two seemingly have no plans of patching things up anytime soon!
