Here's What Happened in the E3 Bathroom That Got Dr Disrespect Banned

Popular streamer and gaming content creator Dr Disrespect has found himself embroiled in plenty of controversy as of late. From an unexpected statement from two former Twitch employees that addressed his reason for being banned from Twitch to a bombshell response from the man himself that confirmed some pretty serious allegations, things have not been looking great for the faux-mulleted fellow.
Before Dr Disrespect (real name Herschel "Guy" Beahm) confirmed the reason for his permanent ban from Twitch in 2020, several rumors were flying as to what could've been the cause. One of the most prominent was that he was banned because of an "IRL stream" that took place inside the bathroom at E3, a now-defunct gaming showcase.
Here's what happened.
Dr Disrespect was banned from E3 and Twitch after filming himself inside a bathroom at the event.
Gamers everywhere know that E3 was an incredibly important gaming showcase that featured news of new releases, prominent speakers in the industry, and more exciting content. Unfortunately, the showcase lost steam after COVID-19 and officially shut down in 2023.
Before that, though, in 2019, Dr Disrespect made headlines by being banned from the event and having his E3 badge revoked — a huge deal for a creator as successful as himself.
During that year of E3, the streamer decided that it would be a good idea to try out some "IRL streaming," which is when you stream yourself walking around in public rather than streaming a video game. This was all well and good until the Doc made a left turn into the event's restroom, filming the entire time, even while event-goers, er, did their business around him. Of course, streaming random people who are using the restroom is a huge violation of privacy and a major legal issue.
Dr Disrespect addressed the situation on X.
On X, formerly Twitter, Dr Disrespect took to his personal Herschel Beahm account to address the situation, and he seemed to blame the whole thing on Doc's "edgy" persona.
"This was my first IRL stream as the Doc and if it's not obvious by now, one of the things I try to stay true with is authenticity. Real life personas are so difficult to pull off, especially in today's society. Doc is edgy, highly opinionated, cocky, etc. and that certainly adds to the difficulty in staying authentic without offending anyone on a deeper, personal level," he said.
"We had no ill intentions and I feel that was pretty obvious if you watched the entire thing. We wanted to capture an adventure, unfortunately we took that adventure into the wrongs areas unaware of the legalities surrounding it. On behalf of the Dr Disrespect brand, I apologize for this," he continued.
The whole situation also earned him a two-week ban from Twitch, according to Game Informer, which, in hindsight, seems like nothing compared to the permanent ban that he faced in 2020.
