Candiace Dillard Bassett Found out She Was Pregnant Before She Announced Her 'RHOP' Exit

Ever since fans met Candiace Dillard Bassett on the third season of The Real Housewives of Potomac, she has made it clear that she doesn’t play about a few things: her music career, educational accomplishments, and husband, Chris Bassett.

Gizelle Bryant learned that firsthand in Season 7, which is currently airing. Candiace and Gizelle are feuding after Gizelle said Chris made her “uncomfortable.” Candiace felt Gizelle accused Chris of wanting to cheat on his wife with her, which Candiace said was false.

Candiace and Gizelle's ongoing feud was one factor in Candiace's decision to leave RHOP after six seasons. Just a few weeks later, fans discovered Candiace had a more personal update: She's pregnant!

Here's the scoop on the new baby Bassett!

In April 2024, RHOP wrapped its eighth season with a three-part reunion. The reunion included difficult moments for Candiace, who pulled out her cry-angle several times while discussing her issues with Gizelle and Robyn Dixon. What Candiace didn't cry about was the pregnancy she had been keeping between her, Chris, and their immediate family for weeks.

Candiace finally spoke about her pregnancy on Monday, April 15. She and Chris broke the news to Entertainment Tonight and confirmed she was in her second trimester at "about 13 weeks." The "Drive Back" singer also said she became pregnant through in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and that their expectant baby came from one of the two embryos they froze in 2022.

While they were both "content" with waiting to retrieve the egg before Chris, 46 turned 50. However, Candiace, 37, admittedly "got the itch" to be a mother sooner than their cutoff date.

"I kind of woke up and realized that I was never going to be 100 percent ready," she said. "I just had to ... trust the process and trust my doctors and stop being afraid and just do it. So once we decided together that we were going to do that -- together -- it just was kind of all moving by faith from there."

Candiace and Chris also shared an adorable video in their home to announce her pregnancy, with the wordsmith stating, "The perfect words didn't exist" when she discovered she was pregnant. She further shared with ET she was excited for all of her motherly duties but was relatably terrified of one task.

"Beyond when the baby comes and it's time for school, I'm terrified of math homework," Candiace admitted. "But I guess with the birth, I guess I'm just looking forward to meeting them. Like, I always have these dreams -- I have dreams, like, every other night of just me holding the baby, but ... all you see is the head. So I'm excited to just hold them."

Since Candiace and Chris married in 2018, fans have wondered when the couple will welcome a shared bundle of joy. We’ve watched Candiace become a “bonus mom” to Chris’s kids from previous relationships. However, when it comes to them having a biological child, Candiace has shared her concerns about a baby affecting her career, especially her touring.

Candiace’s fears around pregnancy were amplified in RHOP’s Season 7 episode, “Cleaning Up the Mess.” In the episode, Candiace told Chris her period was late while they were getting ready for her graduation party. She asked her husband if he was “excited” about her possibly being pregnant, and he eagerly replied, “We’ll have to see in the morning.”

Candiace confirmed later in the episode that she isn't pregnant, as her pregnancy test came back “negative.” Despite Candiace and Chris not expecting a baby yet, Candiace said they would continue trying for a baby.

“I was disappointed,' Candiace admits in her confessional. “I was sad, but now we can go back to our plan and finish our egg retrieval process.”

While we unfortunately won't get to see baby Bassett onThe Real Housewives of Potomac, we're so happy Candiace and Chris took the necessary steps to prioritize her health during this exciting time!
