Jack Black Says He's Retiring — Is He Leaving at the Top of His Game?

Jack Black has been acting for 35 years. He brought Dewey Finn to life in School of Rock, Po in Kung Fu Panda, and Dr. Shelly Oberon/Bethany in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. He's returning to the screen to reprise Shelly and Bethany (and Fridge) in Jumanji: The Next Level, but, according to Jack, it may be one of his final roles. Is Jack Black retiring? The actor is looking forward to spending some quality family time.

In an interview with Balance, Jack said that he's preparing for Jumanji: The Next Level to be one of his last, if not the last film.

“Maybe one more movie. I’m kind of enjoying the idea of early retirement," he said. "I’ve been saying for a long time that this is the last movie. We’ll see. I can’t really say what my next thing is because it’s too early; it’s a jinxer. I’ve got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. But not too many. I’m looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset.”

When asked what was causing the decision, he cited the fact that he's never really liked being away from his wife, Tanya, or his two sons and hopes to be able to spend more time with them. 

But before we throw Jack his retirement party, he did say that there's a chance he might remain in the public eye. He suggested that he might go for a role on TV if it filmed in Hollywood and he could go home to his family at the end of every day. But he's also not completely ruling out doing a movie. 

"I’m not a big five-year plan kind of guy though. I don’t really look down the road. I kind of take it day by day. And if something comes up, you know, obviously if Tarantino comes a-knocking, I’m gonna do that movie!" he said. 

But the Tenacious D performer also said that he's not done with his music career either. He said that he has one more record he'd like to make with his bandmate, Kyle Gass. 

With Jumanji's success, it seems that Jack is looking to go out on a high. As of 2019, his net worth is between $30 and $40 million.

In 2000, he charged $250,000 for High Fidelity. In 2001, that price jumped to $2 million for Shallow Hal. More recently, he reportedly charges $8 million per film. He's also an influencer on Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube. While it's unknown how much he charges for an endorsement, it's estimated that he's making at least $127,500 from his Youtube channel. He's also estimated to be making between $9,041 - $15,069 for his Twitter and Instagram endorsements. 

Whether or not Jack actually retires, we can all enjoy his performance of Bethany one more time in Jumanji: The Next Level, out Dec. 13.
