Lala Kent Says She Wanted To "Eliminate as Many Questions" as She Could With Her Baby Girl

It's no secret that things didn't end well for Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent and Randall Emmett, the father of her daughter. But after she opened up about intrauterine insemination (IUI), it didn't take long for her to follow that up with a pregnancy announcement. That's right, Lala is pregnant with her second baby, except this time, she's doing it solo.

According to Lala on Watch What Happens Live, her relationship with ex Emmett is nonexistent, and viewers have seen that she co-parents with her mom, who lives with her, more than her daughter Ocean's father. It's no wonder she decided to take it upon herself to have another child by herself from the start.

And now, Lala is pregnant, as she announced officially on Instagram on March 3. What's her due date and will her IUI journey play out on VPR? Let's dive in!

Except for the early days of Lala's relationship with Randall on Vanderpump Rules, Lala is an open book when it comes to romance and her personal life. That goes for off the show too, by the way. And in a January 2024 interview with Cosmopolitan, she went even further when she revealed her plans to have a second baby via IUI.

Lala told the outlet that she was "really open to anything" in regards to having a second child on her own. And before she got pregnant with daughter Ocean, she had been open to in vitro fertilization (IVF). She had even been open to the idea of adoption. So for Lala to take the route of IUI, which involves putting sperm directly into the uterus, it makes sense.

Apparently, Lala was just leaving breadcrumbs for everyone to follow, because on March 3, she announced her pregnancy on Instagram. She shared a photo of her belly with daughter Ocean smiling up at Lala, and the caption, "I’m expanding my pod."

Just over a month later, on April 9, Lala delighted her audience by announcing the sex of her second baby!

Lala shared, "With this baby, I was feeling all sorts of energy," on her Amazon Live stream before finally unveiling the news. Despite speculations from fans leaning towards a boy, she joyfully revealed that she is expecting a baby girl!

Reflecting on the dynamics of her household, she admitted, "I felt like boy energy would've been nice to have in the house. But I love girl time. We're a house full of girls right now."

Overflowing with excitement, Lala expressed, "This is my second child. I'm doing it on my own. I'm so freaking excited to expand my family." Teasingly, she hinted, "I have the name, guys, and it starts with an S."

When Lala spoke with Cosmopolitan about her pregnancy plans, she said that she had everything in place to get pregnant and have a second child without a partner. While she didn't share any further details with her Instagram pregnancy announcement, we can assume that Lala's due date is some time in late summer 2024.

Following her Instagram announcement, Lala also opened up on her podcast Give Them Lala about getting a sperm donor for her IUI and finding out she was pregnant. She revealed that she found out she was pregnant on Dec. 22, 2023, so at the time of her announcement, she was out of her first trimester.

Most people prefer to announce a pregnancy at or close to 12 weeks. This is when the first trimester ends and when some major complications are out of the way, making the pregnant individual in the clear, so to speak, and able to confidently share their pregnancy news. If that’s the case for Lala and she was 12 weeks pregnant at the time of her March post, that puts her due date in August or September 2024.

Lala shared on her podcast that she didn't expect to get pregnant after her first round of her IUI treatment, but in December 2023, before she and her family were headed to Palm Springs for vacation, she took a pregnancy test. And those two lines, indicating a positive test, shocked her.

She explained on her podcast that she chose not to look at adult photos of her donor, though she was open to seeing childhood photos. The former, to her, would have made the process "too real" and "much too personal." Still, she said, she wanted to make sure her second child would have a fighting chance to look similar to her and the rest of her family.

"Genetics are fickle," Lala said. "You could have two people from the same mom and dad and they look nothing alike... And i just felt like, OK I'm bringing this baby into the world because I so badly want it to be here, but I also want to eliminate as many questions as I possibly can. So I was like, I would prefer that this baby kind of have the same aesthetic look as like me, my mom, [and] Ocean."

She added that, by ensuring this, she wanted to "eliminate any sort of like toughness" for her child.

Before Lala and Randall separated, they'd been engaged. But after Lala learned about allegations regarding Randall's alleged infidelity, she broke things off with him. Unlike Lala's co-star Ariana Madix and her breakup with cheating ex-boyfriend Tom Sandoval, viewers didn't see much of Lala and Randall's downfall on the show.

However, viewers have seen the aftermath of it and they continue to watch Lala navigate the waters of being a single mom. And that isn't stopping her from expanding her family as she sees fit.
