Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, Michael, aka Dr. Hamilton Finn, broke many fans' hearts by saying goodbye to his longtime character and the show.
"Thank you for your kindness. My heart is filled with love and gratitude," he captioned a video in which he shares the shocking news.
In the short clip, Michael says, "I’ve always been partial to the Irish goodbye. That’s where you leave the party without actually telling anyone you’re gone. But I thought you all deserve better. So I just want to let you know, I just filmed my final scenes here at General Hospital."
Fans immediately expressed their sadness over having to bid Dr. Finn adieu, with the actor also sharing in his Instagram video, "I’ve loved every minute that I’ve been here. I want to thank the entire cast and crew for allowing me to share their stage, these past 10 years. Most importantly, I want to thank all of you for the kindness and love you’ve shown me and my family. I won’t ever forget you.”
Michael ended his emotional social media video by saying, "And as I walk out here for the last time, and with apologies to the great Lou Gehrig, I feel like the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.”

As for how he will exit, Soaps conjectures that his character will leave Port Charles to get treatment. But we will have to watch to know for sure.
Meanwhile, it's worth noting that of course the doctor is not the first role the actor has played on the show, with Michael previously starring as John McBain and Silas Clay.
In a crossover storyline, John McBain also appeared on One Life to Live from 1999 until 2012, when he would make the leap to the ABC soap that he is now leaving.
