Alex Warren's Parents Have Been out of the Picture for Some Time

TikTok users and frequent social media scrollers will probably recognize Alex Warren, musician and one of the co-founders of the now-defunct Hype House.

Despite the peppy vlogs and happy snippets of life that Alex continues to share with his millions of followers, he had a pretty rough upbringing. Both of his parents have long since passed, and while he has some siblings he is still in contact with, he's shared with his followers just how difficult his life has been. What happened to them?

In between sharing looks at his day-to-day life, Alex occasionally shares more intimate details about his upbringing with his followers. Every year, he shares a post on the anniversary of his father's passing, often with a caption including the tagline "F--k cancer."

In a post from 2018, Alex opened up about his father, sharing a little bit about his battles with cancer that ultimately took his life.

"As many of you know I lost my dad when I was 9," Alex wrote the Instagram post on June 17 of that year. "He was battling cancer for a long time, he won most of the battles, but this one he died with the love from all of his family and friends. I want to personally say thank you to everyone who has helped my family and I in the past and future and all the kind words. He was such an amazing person and such an [influential] person for me. I do everything I do to make him proud up there. Love ya big man, see you again."

After his father passed away, he lived with only his mom — but that wasn't particularly easy, either. Following the death of her husband, Alex has publicly shared that she relied heavily on drinking.

"My mom was an amazing person, but my mom drunk was probably worst person alive," Alex said in an episode of his podcast, a clip of which he cross-posted to TikTok. "And my mom was drunk more than she was sober."

This, he said, is why he doesn't drink or do drugs. By the time Alex was 17, his mother had thrown him out of the house. With nowhere else to go, he reportedly spent a lot of his time sleeping in his friends' cars.

"A lot of my friends' parents didn't like me because, instead of working or going to college, they'd hang out with me and shoot vlogs," he told Forbes in January 2021. "They wouldn't let me stay in their house, so I'd sleep in my friends’ cars. And the next day, I'd shoot with them. And the next night, I'd go to someone else's house and do the same thing."

Unfortunately, it was his mother's alcoholism that eventually claimed her life. Though he speaks little of their relationship after being kicked out, months before her death the two were in contact, as he shared in the clip of his podcast.

"Our communication before she passed away was 'I've been attending AA meetings and I'm no longer drinking. I'm now sober,'" he said. "She died from liver failure and renal failure due to alcohol three months later."
