Now that Season 5 of Doubling Down with the Derricos is underway, the family’s antics are top-of-mind. With 14 kids and potentially more on the way, the Derricos are seemingly unafraid to take risks when it comes to child-rearing. But in other aspects of their life, they definitely have their struggles.
Marrian Derrico (or GG as she’s known on the show) has had her fair share of health scares after multiple cancer diagnoses. As Karen Derrico and her husband, Deon Derrico, deal with GG’s treatment, while raising their 14 children, Karen faces a health scare of her own. So what happened to Karen? We have a health update for the Derrico matriarch.
What happened to Karen Derrico? She fell on ‘Doubling Down with the Derricos.’
In the Season 5 trailer, all eyes are on Karen as the team rushes over to the Derrico mama. She seems to collapse behind a car in a parking lot and when Deon notices, he says, “Hey Karen? She’s hurt,” and rushes over. The production team is all hands on deck as Deon asks, “What happened?” and someone from the production team says, “Somebody check her pulse. Are you checking her pulse? Do you know how to do that?”
Another producer adds, “Let’s not everybody crowd her,” as an ambulance shows up. Deon kneels beside her asking, “Karen, what’s wrong?” Naturally, we’re worried! Karen is a mother of 14 children and we don’t think Deon’s ready to be a single father of 14! But if both his mother and his wife are facing serious health issues, the Derrico family could be facing a whole new set of struggles.
A health update for Karen Derrico proves that she’s likely fine.
Although she collapses in a Season 5 episode of Doubling Down with the Derricos, Karen is seemingly okay based on her social media posts. Season 5 was likely filmed at the end of 2023, so the fact that Karen is seemingly okay today proves that whatever happened was just a little scare. On her 44th birthday, she posted, “Thank you, Jesus, for allowing me to see Year 44,” perhaps hinting at her medical emergency.
At the same time, Karen and Deon have made it very clear that they are still trying to have more children, and at 44 years old, that can be pretty risky. Karen has now had at least three miscarriages, which can cause health issues such as fainting spells.
Because Karen has spent so much of her life pregnant and has given birth at least 15 times (their son Carter died after a 28-week premature birth), it’s very possible that Karen’s pregnancy, miscarriages, and ensuing hormonal changes caused her to collapse that day in the parking lot.
All that matters is that she’s happy and healthy now, which by the looks of it, she is doing well!
