Keeping up With the Kardashians was one of those reality shows that popped during the golden age of reality TV and somehow stood the test of time. Sadly, the E! series came to an end in 2021, but fear not!
In April 2022, Hulu premiered a documentary-style series aptly titled, The Kardashians, which continues to follow the famous family, including their business ventures, relationships, and everyday drama-filled lives.
While fans have been continuing to keep up with our favorite TV family, one question has been on fans' minds: Will Rob Kardashian appear in The Kardashians? The beloved Kardashian brother isn't a major player in the show and fans miss him. They watched him in the early seasons of the original E! network show.
Rob didn't make an appearance in the first few seasons of the Hulu series. And during Season 2 filming, showrunner Danielle King exclusively teased more information about whether Rob would be part of the show at some point.
Does Rob appear in 'The Kardashians' on Hulu?
The initial Hulu press release for The Kardashians didn't list Rob as part of the cast, only naming his sisters and the iconic mom-ager herself, Kris Jenner.
While nothing is for certain, Danielle wasn't confident that Rob would be popping back up. For Season 2, she explained, "My instinct would be to say no ... but you never know."
By the time Season 3 rolled around, that "you never know" turned into an "it is happening." On July 13, 2023, Rob made his debut on the show for, ironically, the same daughter he was trying to stay private for. In the episode, he calls up his sister, Khloe, and asks for help planning Dream's birthday party.
Apparently, Dream had a perfect party fantasy in her head. "She wants a butterfly dress," Rob told Khloe. "She wants pink braids in her hair, so I'll get her hair braided and her nails done."
Flash forward to Season 5, and Rob is again on The Kardashians. Well, sort of. In a promo after the season premiere, Khloe is seen talking to Rob on the phone, asking him if he would help their mutual friend Malika Haqq have another baby. Maybe this doesn't count as an official appearance, but it does make the possibility of Rob joining the series in full form a little more possible. Hey, we can dream. No pun intended.
How is 'The Kardashians' different from 'Keeping up With the Kardashians'?
According to the press release, The Kardashians is all about "the intense pressures of running billion-dollar businesses" and "the hilarious joys of playtime and school drop-offs." Although it doesn't sound much different from Keeping up With the Kardashians, the Hulu series focuses more on the individual lives of each Kardashian-Jenner family member.
Much like the original E! series, The Kardashians films the good, the bad, and OMG moments, like Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian's wedding and baby announcement. Needless to say, Danielle and the show's producers have plenty of source material to work with.
In fact, she told Distractify that she simply "follows their lead" when it comes to filming personal moments and what they want to show.
"They're not only the people that are sharing their lives, but they're also executive producers on the show," she said. "They share just about everything, but they do have boundaries. And, you know, we will have conversations about certain things in their lives, but I always defer to them."
